About Us

Our Beginning

Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church began as a mission in August 1980, when Evangelist Raymond Saunders led a series of meetings in the Better Living Crusade Tent at the corner of Barbour and Charlotte Streets in Hartford. By the time the crusade ended, 180 people had been baptized or rebaptized — and about 25 of them stayed on, becoming the core of a new congregation supported in its earliest days by Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hartford.

Becoming Hope

On September 16, 1983, that growing group was formally organized as Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor William Vincent as its first pastor. The organization ceremony was held in the auditorium of Martin Luther King Elementary School on Ridgefield Street, and the young congregation went on to worship at Bethel A.M.E. Church on North Main Street in Hartford.

A Home in Bloomfield

As Hope continued to grow, the congregation set its sights on a permanent home of its own. A building committee, directed by Pastor Horatius Gittens, identified property in Bloomfield and set to work — members giving their time, their professional skills, and their labor, from builders and architects to the church family as a whole, down to the children who helped place bricks on the walls.

In September 1993, Hope received permission to occupy its new church home at 1052 Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield, Connecticut — the same address where the congregation worships today.

Faith in Action

Over the years, Hope has supported ministries for every generation — among them Sabbath School, Men's and Women's Ministries, Personal Ministries, Adventurers, Pathfinders, Senior Ministry, Children's Ministries, Vacation Bible School, Community/Food Share Ministries, Drama, and Adventist Youth Ministries.

Hope's connection to Bloomfield runs deep: the congregation has taken part in the Bloomfield Memorial Day Parade every year since 1993, with the Star Sapphires Adventurer Ministry and Hope Conquerors Pathfinder Ministry among those representing Hope's youngest members in the community.

Hope Today

Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church remains at 1052 Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield, Connecticut, as part of the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Guided by its mission — Helping Others Prepare for Eternity — the congregation gathers for Sabbath School at 9:15 AM and Divine Worship at 11:00 AM, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Dr. Walton H. Rose Sr.
