This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies that may be used when you visit hopesdact.org, who sets them, and how you can control them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information more broadly.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website or service saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, work in much the same way. Some are needed for a page or feature to work. Others are used to measure how a website is used.

Our approach

We keep cookies to a minimum. We have turned off our hosting platform’s optional visitor-statistics cookies and the analytics built into our video player. We do not use advertising cookies or analytics of our own.

Our pages may use cookies or browser storage that are strictly necessary to deliver the website and keep it secure.

Embedded services

Some pages show content from other services. Those services may set their own cookies, depending on your browser and its settings. Many browsers limit or block cookies from embedded services.

• Google Forms(Prayer Request and Connect With Us pages): when a form loads, Google may set short-lived cookies (such as S and COMPASS, about 1 hour) that help the form work. Google may also use its own cookies, such as NID, if your browser allows them. Google handles this under its own Privacy Policy.
• Google Maps(Home page): our tests found no cookies set by the embedded map, but Google may set cookies if you interact with the map or are signed in to Google.
• BoxCast video player(Home and Watch pages): with its analytics turned off, our tests found that the player set no cookies. When you play a video, the player saves a random viewer ID (boxcast-viewer-id) in your browser’s local storage, and BoxCast may record basic viewing information, such as view counts, on its own servers.
• Open-Meteo weather(Home page): sets no cookies. To avoid asking for the weather on every visit, our page saves the latest Bloomfield reading (temperature, conditions and the time it was fetched) in your browser’s local storage and reuses it for up to 30 minutes. It contains nothing about you.

Links to other websites, such as our Digital Bulletin (FlipHTML5), online giving (AdventistGiving), YouTube, and Facebook, do not set cookies on our pages. Those services use their own cookies when you visit them.

Your choices

Because we do not use optional cookies of our own, the website does not show a cookie banner. You can block or delete cookies, and clear local storage, in your browser settings. Our pages, forms, and video should still work, although an embedded service may work differently if its cookies are blocked.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when the cookies used on our website change. The effective date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
